In ancient Chinese astronomy, the stars of Auriga were incorporated into several Chinese constellations. These included Wuche, which used several of Auriga’s stars to represent the five chariots of the celestial emperors, which in turn represented the grain harvest. Another is Zuoqi, which was made up of nine stars in the east of the constellation to represent chairs for the emperor and other officials..
In this work we have studied four different poly(butyl cyanoacrylate) (PBCA) NPs , PEGylated with different types of PEG based non ionic surfactants “Jeffamine M 2070, Brij L23, Kolliphor HS 15, Pluronic F68 “or combinations thereof. We evaluated the PEGylation, both quantitatively by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF SIMS), and qualitatively by studying zeta potential, protein adsorption, diffusion, cellular interactions and blood circulation half life. We found that NMR and ToF SIMS are complementary methods, while TGA is less suitable to quantitate PEG on polymeric NPs.

There is a growing appreciation that finely tuned polysaccharide utilization loci enable ubiquitous gut Bacteroidetes to thrive on the plethora of complex polysaccharides that constitute “dietary fiber.” Mixed linkage (1,3)/(1,4) glucans (MLGs) are a key family of plant cell wall polysaccharides with recognized health benefits but whose mechanism of utilization has remained unclear. Here, we provide molecular insight into the function of an archetypal MLG utilization locus (MLGUL) through a combination of biochemistry, enzymology, structural biology, and microbiology.
